Horizon Academy Character Development

Using a choice-based system, students earn merits/demerits for daily choices. This allows students to recognize the positive and negative consequences for personal decisions.

With self-awareness, positive attitude and hard work, students progress through six statuses. Each status advancement earns additional responsibilities and privileges that for most students, were preciously taken for granted. This process allows students to create the results they desire and earn their rewards.

To gain and promote emotional awareness, students have the opportunity to attend emotional-growth seminars. With this component, students can address limiting beliefs they have created about themselves and explore the affects on their behavior. Given this distraction-free time to focus on these personal and individual struggles, students gain the tools to create a successful future as they establish and increase self-esteem, respect, confidence, integrity and motivation.
Psychological Evaluations
Different from other specialty boarding schools, Horizon Academy works with Dr. Marcel Chappuis, PhD, to complete a psychological evaluation upon enrollment. With these assessments, we can get a solid, accurate picture of the strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to address the individual needs of each student.
